Acceptance Speech by Prince (Barr.) Semiu Orimadegun Kasali delivered on ……after his selection by the Adeboruwa Kingmakers of Igbogbo and confirmed by the Lagos State Government as the Adeboruwa-elect.

Protocol.

I acknowledge the greatness of the Almighty Eledumare, the creator and Orisa-Nla who has made today possible and forever I shall be of immense appreciation to how He been manifesting Himself in my life.

I pay homage to my ancestors, the Olojas that had reigned from time immemorial and firmly established the ancient town of Igbogbo on the surface of the earth and laid the path we are about to embark upon in charting another course for Igbogbo. More importantly, I acknowledge the Oba Kashimawo (1900-1905), Oba Osho-Ojuba (1905-1931), Oba Banjoko (1931-1933), Oba Banmosu (1933-1939), Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe, Jpil (1940-1974), Oba Joseph Omodeinwajaye Odugbose (1975-1977) and the immediate past Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba (Dr.) Johnson Olatunji Fatola, Jpil (1979 – 2015), those who established the modern Igbogbo kingdom.

My special appreciation to the Adeboruwa kingmakers who deemed me fit and competent to ascend the throne of Adeboruwa and the entire Adeboruwa-in-Council Chiefs who together we shall be managing the affairs of the community. Likewise, I greet the entire Adeboruwa Ruling Houses of Igbogbo including my own Ijaolu Ruling House for the support and trust repose in me to ascend the throne on their behalf. Also, to the residents and good people of Igbogbo Kingdom for their moral, spiritual and other supports in making today a reality.

I thank the Obas in Ikorodu Division starting from Permanent Vice Chairman, Lagos State Council of Obas & Chiefs and Paramount Ruler/Chairman, Ikorodu Divisional Council of Obas & Chiefs, HRM Oba (Engr.) Kabir Adewale Shotobi, the Ranodu of Imota, HRM Oba Ajibade Agoro, FCA, the Olubeshe of Ibeshe, Oba Richard Ogunsanya and the Obateru of Egbin, Oba Akeem Oriyomi and other traditional chiefs across the Ikorodu Division especially those that are members of the divisional council, for their supports and encouragements.

Finally, I thank His Excellency, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode and entire State Cabinet and Principal Officers and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly for their supports.

Indeed, this is a turning point in the affairs of Igbogbo Kingdom and Ikorodu Division in general. I have offered myself to serve God and the generality of my people and there is no turning back.

We shall together in the spirit of love, kindness, cooperation and will to take Igbogbo to the next level of traditional, socio-economic and political developments. This is not trying to blame anybody for the current position of Igbogbo among other component parts of the division, but our position to me is not pleasant and I very well believe that we all feel same way. It is now time to recommit and rededicate ourselves to the progress and development of Igbogbo and make her the envy of others within the division and the state. It is possible and God willing, we shall succeed and we are not going to leave anybody behind in achieving this.

We shall practice an open-door policy and everyone shall have opportunity to contribute his or her quota. Our plan is to rebrand Igbogbo, facilitate socio-economic developments, encourage cultural rebirth, improve our traditional status, propagate Igbogbo tourism potentials and maximize her human and material resources for the benefit of the community. This is our pledge and we are assured that God will grant us the ability, capacity and capability to succeed. Amen.

I cannot conclude this short speech without acknowledging my co-contestants to the Adeboruwa stool. Their interests added colour to the contest and showed that Igbogbo is endowed with quality men. This is our reign and we shall together steer the ship alright.

Same to the other ruling houses still contesting my emergence, I say to them that it is only God that crowns an Oba and in this case, I have been the chosen one. I humbly seek for your understanding and supports. I appeal to you that we should avoid going back to the period between 1979 and 1990s, when the falcon was unable hear the falconer and we are still witnesses to the effects. As an officer in the temple of justice, I will defend your rights to seek justice whenever you feel aggrieved but in this case, the custodians of Igbogbo culture and tradition and the entire Igbogbo people have pronounced and since we can only have a king at a time, I am again soliciting for your supports and I assure you that when the dust settled we shall collective look into our existence and adjust where necessary.

On this note, I am humbly accepting the anointment of God, selection of the custodians of Igbogbo culture and tradition and the mandate of the generality of Igbogbo people as the next Adeboruwa of Igbogbo and I promise to use this position to further the course of Igbogbo in particular and Ikorodu and Lagos in general. So help me God.

Thank you all and God bless.
